Johannesburg, Wednesday 20 March 2019 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has received a total of 86 nominations in almost all categories at the recent announcement of the 2019 Liberty Radio Awards contenders.
A number of SABC Radio presenters and programs were nominated in various categories including LUCKY “LTK” KOMANISI (MOTSWEDING FM), THABO WA MO-AFRIKA (THOBELA FM), MASIXOLE MDIGANE (TRUFM), AMAZA NTSHANGA (UMHLOBO WENENE FM), THANDO “THABOOTY” THABETHE (5FM) AMATHUNZI ANABILE AFTERNOON DRIVE SHOW (AADS) (IKWEKWEZI FM), REA KUBELETSA (LESEDI FM), THE GLENZITO SUPER DRIVE (RADIO 2000), THE THABOOTY DRIVE (5FM), just to name a few.
SABC Head of Radio Marketing Siphelele Sixaso commented , “The over 80 finalists that we have received as the different radio brands bear testimony that SABC Radio brands are the most pervasive medium with the widest reach and we will ensure that this reach is used to carry on delivering on our public mandate to Inform, Educate and Entertain our listeners with new and exciting innovations ”.
The SABC produced a documentary to celebrate MaSisulu’s Centenary entitled Albertina Sisulu: A woman of fortitude and this documentary is a finalist for the Best Radio Documentary. The promotion of the 16th Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture delivered by President Barack Obama is also a finalist.
Other categories include: DZI A OROWA (PHALAPHALA FM), MONATE BREAKFAST SHOW (LESEDI FM), KUSILE MZANSI BREAKFAST SHOW (LIGWALAGWALA FM), BREAKFAST EXPRESS (LOTUS FM), SAFM SUNRISE (SAFM), NNE NA VHONE (PHALAPHALAFM), THE MIDDAY FREQUENCY (TRUFM), KOLSKOOT VISAGIE (RSG), MINDZHUMBA (MUNGHANA LONENE).
The SABC also got nominations for Radio Podcast, Radio Documentary, Spots Show and Field News Reporter.
