Stellenbosch, South Africa – Over 100 leading minds in conservation will gather at Spier Wine Farm from 10-12 May 2019 for the 4th edition of the progressive 2 day UN-conference, Conservation Lab.
Our keynote speaker for 2019 is Ghanian-born, globally acclaimed entrepreneur Fred Swaniker. Fred is the Founder of the African Leadership University and has been named a Top 10 African Power Man by Forbes. He will explore how to nurture future conservation leaders in what is sure to be an unmissable hour at Conservation Lab 2019.
Conservation Lab is 100% UN-conference and designed by the participants. The agenda will feature open discussions, collaborative workshops, a keynote speaker, and more. The Lab is a progressive, creative forum that brings together experts from across the travel and conservation faculties, to work as a team in collaborating and innovating for conservation.
In 2018, the diverse and varied audience members included representatives from Great Plains Conservation, Black Mamba anti-poaching unit, Wildlife Conservation Network, andBeyond Travel, Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, Congo Conservation Company, Space for Giants/ The Giants Club, and many other determined conservation fighters.
Conservation Lab has provided a platform for some key conversations, such as:
- The usefulness of collaboration within conservation: this was demonstrated by a collaboration by industry leaders: AndBeyond and Great Plains Conservation
- The vital role that travel plays in conservation, conservation is nothing without the community,
- The importance and lack of diversity in conservation
- The Great Hunting Debate – This was a first at Conservation Lab and one of the most controversial moments. The debate was between leaders from the hunting fraternity and photographic tourism, who discussed the role of trophy hunting in conservation.
We are calling on the sharpest minds in conservation and travel – with the aim to share ideas, pool resources and expertise, and gather intelligent insights that lead to informed decisions and more effective action. This event strives to build bridges between industry leaders with the purpose of making travel a stronger force for conservation.
