Girl power! DJ Zinhle wants YOU to join her all-female band

DJ Zinhle is starting a band and is looking for talented female musicians around the country to join her! In celebration of the 15th anniversary of her being in the music industry, Zinhle Jiyane is inviting drummers and bass guitarists to audition for a spot in the all-female band.

The announcement forms part of an initiative to #OpenUpTheIndustry, in which Zinhle is hoping to empower and uplift women as well as bring new talent into SA’s music scene.

#OpenUpTheIndustry has been an ongoing debate in South Africa’s entertainment industry in the last few years

The movement stems from an outcry that the same select few stars seem to be dominating the industry. Celebs like Bonang, Pearl Thusi, Thando Thabethe, and Nomzamo Mbatha – to name a few – have been lambasted for ‘hogging the limelight’, and ‘not allowing new talent to shine’.

But Zinhle is hoping to use her platform to change all that.

“Starting a band has always been a dream of mine, and I think now is the perfect time, especially with celebrating a milestone of 15 years in the industry. I also think it is a great opportunity for upcoming female musicians to be exposed to the industry and hopefully, the experience opens more doors for them.” Zinhle told Drum magazine
