Tell us a bit about yourself?

I am a mom of two beautiful girls who are the centre of my life and raising them with the coolest guy to walk this earth. Motherhood has been the single most life-changing experience of my life. It has unearthed my gift and passion which are writing, conversations, parenting, and empowerment.

Outside of my roles, I am a Kasi girl that has always loved people. I believe that we have all been called to serve. Serving my children is allowing me to serve other parents with parenting insights.

What work do you do?

I am a digital parenting content creator and conversationalist. I am currently the Guest Editor of BabyYumYum.co.za, South Africa’s #1 parenting portal. The portal offers free localised parenting content, and I am the girl that helps put it all together. Our editorial team is responsible for ensuring that our BabyYumYumers have up-to-date and relevant information they can use to answer some of their burning parenting questions and bridge any information gaps that exist.

I am a speaker as well and getting ready to host over 30 speakers at the upcoming Baby Yum Yum Virtual Parenting Experience. The event is taking place from the 20th until the 22nd of May 2022, and R80 gets parents a weekend pass to the best experts in the parenting field and amazing discounts from their favourite brands.

How long have you been in the industry?

I started blogging about my parenting journey shortly after I gave birth to my eldest daughter. This was almost five years ago. I created the blog Black Mom Chronicles which has become a platform for moms to feel seen and heard. I also joined other digital platforms to create parenting content for them including The Citizen, Parenty, Living & Loving, and Al 4 Women. Through the years, I have hosted numerous conversations and projects around parenting, most notably a parenting show called Ask a Parent.

Has your work always been your passion? Tell us why? Being a woman in the industry – what does it take?

I have always been inclined to write and share but did not have something to write about until I became a mother. Motherhood unearthed my passion for sharing and my gift of writing and conversing. My academic background is in politics, and my work history is in recruitment. The common denominator here is people. I have always recognised that there is a reason we exist in a community. I wanted to serve that need through policies as a Political Science graduate. I then served that need by bridging the employment gap and now serving that need through content and conversation.

It takes a lot of zeal to be able to show up in all your roles as a woman. “How many hats can you wear at the same time?” That is the question that rings so true for so many of us.

This is why I am grateful for my current work as it allows me to integrate my different roles. As I navigate my reality as a new mom again, raising a pre-schooler, a wife, and building a brand and a career, I am empowered by the knowledge that my life and work can stand as a testament to others.

What has been the most difficult challenge of your career? What advice do you have for other women in your industry? Plans for the future?

Relevance has been quite challenging as a digital content creator. Digital platforms are always changing, and keeping abreast of these changes is essential but overwhelming. When you finally think you have Facebook figured out, the platform changes the next morning to snap you out of your bubble.

My advice to other women in this space is never forget your “why”. There is a reason why creators create. When we are always connected to that truth, then we can navigate any changes and challenges.

Mine is to share light wherever I go and no amount of Instagram and WordPress edits and additions will remove me from that. Purpose manifests itself differently in all our roles.

We have some exciting things coming up with BabyYumYum.co.za this year. The Virtual Parenting Experience is our current craze and the whole team is excited to bring this event to the comfort of our viewer’s homes. We also have plans to increase our reach too.
