In a high-stakes industry where compliance, security, and operational integrity are non-negotiable, Mostert plays a pivotal leadership role. She heads a team of 29 employees, including 11 surveillance specialists and 18 security professionals, ensuring that every aspect of surveillance, compliance, and security operations runs seamlessly.
Her responsibilities extend to overseeing the organisation’s in-house security company and ensuring that all operations align strictly with gaming regulations, legislative requirements, and company standards. It is a position that demands constant vigilance, strategic leadership, and sound decision-making, as even the smallest oversight can carry significant consequences.
Through her leadership, Mostert demonstrates how strong governance, accountability, and teamwork are essential in maintaining trust and integrity within the gaming and security environment, making her career journey an inspiring example for women looking to step into leadership roles in complex, highly regulated industries.
1. What did the acting period teach you about leadership and resilience?
The acting period taught me that leadership is not about position, but about responsibility. It required me to remain calm under pressure, make difficult decisions with limited information, and stay consistent even when outcomes were uncertain. Resilience, for me, meant showing up every day with strength, adaptability, and commitment, regardless of the challenges.
2. What does being the first woman in this role mean to you?
To me, being the first woman appointed as the Surveillance & Security Manager is making history. It is not just a personal achievement, but a milestone that serves as inspiration to other women, empowering them to believe in themselves, pursue leadership, and break barriers in spaces where they were once underrepresented.
3. What advice do you have for women entering male-dominated industries?
Know your worth. Own your space. Lead with confidence. Never let intimidation silence your potential.
4. What key moments shaped your career since joining in 2003?
Every transition, every challenge, and every step forward since 2003 have shaped who I am today. From learning the foundations of the industry to leading teams and driving change, each moment taught me resilience, humility, and the importance of perseverance.
5. How did your investigation background prepare you for this role?
My investigative background trained me to think critically, assess risk objectively, and make decisions based on evidence rather than emotion. It strengthened my ability to analyse situations, manage sensitive matters with discretion, and lead with fairness and accountability. Most importantly, it taught me to clearly identify what I know (and to actively seek out what I don’t) because that mindset creates growth, competence, and strong leadership.
6. How do you balance authority and empathy as a leader?
Strong leadership requires both strength and humanity. Authority provides structure and direction; empathy builds trust and loyalty. I lead firmly, but never without understanding.
7. How important is continuous training in your line of work?
With constant market shifts and rapid technological advancements, we must remain up to date with current trends and emerging technologies. Staying informed allows us to work smarter, not harder. For the Surveillance team, this is essential to remain relevant, contribute meaningfully within the gaming industry, and add real value to the organisation’s strategic objectives.
8. What strengths do women bring to security and risk management?
Analytical, empathetic, resilient, and adaptable—women enhance security and risk management by balancing strategy with people-focused leadership. As a leader, you are only as strong as your team, and with a strong, balanced team, collective effort drives success. Truly, teamwork makes the dream work.
9. How do you build trust within a high-responsibility team?
I believe trust is built on transparency and consistency. By being open, honest, and reliable, I enable the team to perform confidently, make decisions independently, and work together effectively.
10. What practical steps can young women take to grow their careers?
Young women should focus on developing both technical skills and soft skills. Seek opportunities to learn, ask questions, and gain experience. Build a strong professional network, find mentors, and don’t hesitate to take on challenging assignments that push you out of your comfort zone. Most importantly, know your worth and never be afraid to claim it.
11. What is your top personal safety advice for women?
Always be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your ‘six.’ Never assume that an incident can’t happen to you because anything can occur at any time. Protect yourself by staying alert and avoiding unnecessary risks.
12. What legacy do you hope to leave for future female leaders?
My father always used to say that when I get married, it should be because I wanted to, not because I needed to. That is why he taught me everything I know and instilled in me the confidence to stand on my own. I believe that any woman can excel in roles traditionally dominated by men and be a true inspiration to the next generation. I hope to leave a legacy that encourages women to lead boldly, break barriers, and make their mark with confidence and integrity.
