1. Can you please tell us more about your business?

A. Millennial Mindset Media is a Digital Marketing agency that offers strategic and creative solutions to business problems. Our service offering ranges from social media management to website design. Our goal is to ensure that our clients have a strong and consistent digital presence which brings them quality leads. We work with vibrant and creative millennials that are constantly challenging the unidimensional way in which businesses market themselves – this ensures that each of our clients’ brands stand out. We truly believe that the media industry thrives from fresh ideas, and we have those in abundance.

2. When did you start your business?

A. Although the business was registered in 2017, Millennial Mindset Media only started during the pandemic in 2020. In a way – I feel as though circumstances pushed me to start because running a business was something I had been putting off for a long time. I have been in the digital marketing industry for 6 years, working for a couple of startups. In 2020, the company I was working for retrenched me and I then decided not to apply for jobs but to work for myself.

3. What is your role in your business?

A. Since my business has only been active for a year. I had to wear many hats. I had to be the accountant, the salesperson, the videographer, the copywriter, the designer, and so on. I literally had to be everything that I needed for my business. Recently brought in an intern, an accountant, and a part-time copywriter. This really helped me in terms of managing the pressure and allowed me to truly focus on business growth.

4. Where did you study and what did you study?

A. I have a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Media Studies and Industrial Psychology from The University of The Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. I recently completed a certificate in User Interface Design from Open Window Creative Technologies Institute. I am, however, constantly learning through platforms like LinkedIn Learn and Skillshare to further sharpen my skills.

5. How did you finance your business?

A. My business was self-funded, I used my money to get the website and compliance ready. Luckily Digital Marketing doesn’t require too much capital to start.

6. Describe your average workday, if such a thing exists.

A. My average workday includes a lot of research, online courses, reading, ideation and content creation, client meetings, meeting with my various team members, going through social media, editing content, answering client queries, and most importantly prospecting.

7. How do you balance your home life and work-life?

A. To be honest, I still struggle with this, I still find myself doing work late into the night. This is something I am still trying to figure out.

8. What drives or inspires you?

A. I grew up surrounded by strong and hardworking women. My grandmother is a pastor and my mother runs a kota shop. I am no stranger to hard work and diligence. What keeps me going is remembering where I come from and understanding that what I am building is bigger than myself. Millennial Mindset Media will change the lives of many young people looking to venture into the industry and will have a real impact in communities and companies it crosses paths with.

9. When and where do you get your best ideas?

A. When I am bathing, haha. I guess that’s when I take time to truly reflect without the noise. I get a lot of ideas and revelations during this period.

10. Where do you advertise your business for leads?

A. At the moment, our business is heavily dependent on referrals. However, we do have a website and also started posting regularly on our digital platforms. Now that we have been active for a year and are confident in our offering, we plan on doing PR drives this year.

11. What is next for your business?

A. We are looking to grow as a business and employ a bigger team. We are also looking to expand our offering and do more work in the User Interface Design space.

12. What advice would you give to female entrepreneurs hoping to start their own business?

A. Just start. You don’t have to have it all figured out in the beginning. You will learn as you grow. Surround yourself with people who inspire you to grow and do better.
