This year adidas has invited a group of women to come together, to go beyond their impossible and run their first-ever marathon – The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon in October.
Adidas will guide these incredible and inspiring women from all walks of life through a holistic program leading up to the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon 2022. Along their journey, we are documenting their experience, capturing what brought them to the table, and sharing HER stories.
Ncebakazi runs with the adidas Runners Cape Town crew and is a hiking fanatic. She describes herself as an adventure enthusiast and the “coolest aunt, daughter and sister” Kazi likes to challenge herself and her latest adventure is the journey to finish her first marathon. Kazi was involved in a serious car accident during her matric year where she fractured her pelvic bone and during the month of bed rest at the hospital, she kept the faith and hoped that she would one day be able to run again.
Kazi would like to use her platform to encourage and bring hope to women to follow their dreams. Her training has increased from 3 to 5 times a week with an average of 50km per week and has learned the importance of preparation before a run. Kazi`s advice is not to doubt yourself, have faith that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
How would you describe yourself?
Fun, ambitious, adventurous, easy-going person.
What are your success habits and what are you proud of?
My success habits include having a physical activity (gym, run and hike) routine. Reading books, one of my recent favourite reads being Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb. I love the different perspective books provide on certain subject matters. And I’m so proud of how far I’ve come in the preparation for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon with adidas. I’m proud of the running confidence I’ve developed through training.
How far do you think you are from achieving your big dreams?
I’m 4 weeks away from completing my first marathon. I’m feeling good about this as I have done the prep work.
What would you like to be the experience you want to share with your mentees or children with?
I would like to share that they should have goals, set them so High and Go after them, For It Is Possible to achieve anything that they set their minds into.
What advice would you give to your past self-5 years ago?
You’ve got this!
What advice do you have for female runners?
The advice I have for female runners is that they are capable of achieving any of the physical goals that they have and that they must believe in themselves. And there is no shame in asking for guidance and/or getting a coach.
What is your time prediction for the Cape Town Marathon?
Well, more importantly than the time is to get to the marathon startline healthy and to finish the marathon strong & injury free.
