1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a dedicated and passionate woman and a proud mother of two. I’ve embarked on this journey to create a brighter (and smoother) future for myself and my children.
2. What work do you do?
I am the Clinic Owner of the newest branch of The Laser Beautique, situated in Gallo Manor, Sandton. I am also the therapist in my branch as I wanted to be fully immersed in the business, from all sides.
3. How long have you been in the industry?
I began my career in the beauty industry in 2002. After a few years, I took a break to be a stay-at-home mom. I then pursued a love of photography for a few years, and now that my kids are older, I have come back to the industry as a therapist, and business owner.
4. Has your work always been your passion? Tell us why.
Absolutely! I love working with people and making a difference in their lives. Being in this industry it allows me to positively impact my client’s lives. Be it through them feeling physically good and confident with their results, or even just feeling revived and refreshed after a treatment, I love knowing that in some way, I have made them happier.
5. Being a woman in the industry – what does it take?
It takes everything! I mean that in the best way though. While the beauty industry has changed over the years and become more inclusive of all genders, I do feel that being a woman in the industry has been easier for me than in other industries in the past. About what it takes… It takes passion, strength, courage, leadership, teamwork, and collaboration with others.
6. What has been the most difficult challenge of your career?
Getting started again after being home with my kids for many years. It’s been a challenge getting used to the new routine and schedule, but I’m grateful to have had those years with them, and they are so proud of me for taking this big step.
7. What advice do you have for other women in your industry?
Support each other! Give advice and guidance where you can and share ideas and information. While a level of competition is good, it’s truly in collaborating with others and supporting each other, that the real success stories happen.
8. Who inspires you in your industry?
I find inspiration from various people in the industry. At the forefront, I’d have to say Tzvia Hermann who is the owner and co-founder of The Laser Beautique. While she began her journey in the beauty industry at a young age, she didn’t simply follow the trends. She had ideas and needs she felt weren’t being met, so set out on a path to find solutions for problems she was facing and brought it all to the front for the benefit of everyone!
9. What’s the best advice / key learnings have you received from your industry peers?
The biggest lesson I have learned is that you don’t have to do things on your own. While you may be the only person in your specific business, so many people are willing to help and guide you to success.
10. What is your leadership style?
I believe that being a leader doesn’t mean leading others to follow. Leadership to me means guiding, supporting, and collaborating with others so they all feel like a part of the team and not just someone under a leader.
11. Have you experienced failure in your career, if so, what lessons did you learn from that?
I have experienced failures. In the past, I have tried to work on business ventures on my own. They didn’t work out because I worked in a way that was in the mindset of “I can do it all on my own”. As it turns out, I can’t do it on my own. I have learned that there are some areas where I have great strengths, yet others where I don’t and need the support or strengths of others. I have fully embraced this with my journey in The Laser Beautique.
12. What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to get my branch up and running to peak performance, which I eventually need to expand into bigger premises, or branch out and open in a second location. While the brand of The Laser Beautique itself is synonymous with quality and expertise, I want my name and branch to be in the front of mind when guests are looking for the services I offer.
