Known as The Pearl of Paarl, she is a singer, entrepreneur, and founder of Chipo Productions whose journey is rooted in faith, resilience, and purpose. As she approaches 50, she is entering a powerful new chapter focused on impact, legacy, and empowering women. Through her latest single, A Woman Unbroken, she turns personal challenges into a message of strength, reminding women that it is never too late to rise, rebuild, and pursue their dreams.
1. What does being “The Pearl of Paarl” mean to you, and how has Paarl shaped you?
“The Pearl of Paarl” is more than a stage name; it represents where I come from and the woman I have become. A pearl is formed under pressure, and that reflects my journey beautifully. Paarl has shaped my values, my faith, my resilience, and my love for people. I carry my hometown with pride wherever I perform.
2. What first inspired your journey into music?
Music has always been part of me. I first discovered my love for singing through church, where music became a way to express my faith and connect with people. Over time, I realised that my voice was not only there to entertain, but also to encourage, heal, and inspire.
3. You perform across many genres. Which style speaks to you most, and why?
I enjoy performing across different genres because each one allows me to express a different part of myself. However, gospel and inspirational music speak most deeply to me because they connect with my faith, my life story, and my desire to leave people feeling stronger than when I found them.
4. What has been the most defining moment of your music career?
There have been many special moments, but releasing my own music, especially A Woman Unbroken, has been one of the most defining. Performing on beautiful stages and receiving recognition has been wonderful, but sharing a song rooted in my own journey has made me understand the true purpose of my voice.
5. What inspired you to launch Chipo Productions?
I launched Chipo Productions because I wanted to create opportunities: not only for myself, but also for other people and brands with meaningful stories. “Chipo” means “gift,” and I believe our gifts are meant to be developed, shared, and used to make a difference. The company brings together my love for music, events, communications, relationship-building, and uplifting others.
6. What have you learned about being both an artist and an entrepreneur?
I have learned that talent may open a door, but discipline, preparation, and consistency keep it open. As an artist, I must remain authentic and emotionally connected to my work. As an entrepreneur, I must understand planning, budgets, contracts, marketing, and relationships. The two roles have taught me to value both creativity and sound business principles.
7. What inspired your latest single, A Woman Unbroken?
A Woman Unbroken was inspired by my personal journey and by the many women who have endured disappointment, loss, rejection, and difficult seasons, yet continue to rise. I wanted to create a song that acknowledges the pain without allowing that pain to become the final chapter.
8. What does being “a woman unbroken” mean to you?
Being “a woman unbroken” does not mean that life has never hurt you or that you have never fallen apart. It means that what happened to you did not destroy the purpose within you. You may carry scars, but you also carry strength, wisdom, and testimony. I have been shattered, but I have never been tamed.
9. As you approach 50, how has your definition of success changed?
As I approach 50, success is no longer only about applause, titles, or recognition. It is about purpose, peace, legacy, and impact. It means using my voice, experience, and influence to open doors, uplift others, and show women that it is never too late to begin again.
10. What has this chapter of your life taught you about confidence and resilience?
This chapter has taught me that confidence is not the absence of fear; it is choosing to move forward despite fear. Resilience is built when we survive the moments we thought would defeat us. I have learned to trust my journey, honour my own voice, and stop waiting for permission to become who I was created to be.
11. What advice would you give women who are afraid to start over or pursue their dreams?
I would tell women that starting over is not failure; sometimes it is the bravest decision you will ever make. Do not wait until you feel completely ready, because courage often comes after you take the first step. Start with what you have, believe that your story still has value, and surround yourself with people who remind you of your worth. Your age, your past, and your setbacks do not disqualify you.
12. What’s next for The Pearl of Paarl?
There is so much ahead. I am continuing to grow A Woman Unbroken, share its message with wider audiences, and prepare for my 50th birthday concert at Paarl Town Hall on 30 January 2027. Through Chipo Productions, I am also expanding into events, media, artist development, and meaningful partnerships. The next chapter is about greater stages, deeper impact, and carrying the Pearl of Paarl proudly into the world.
