It all started at the beginning of the nationwide lockdown, where Mosa Dzingwa; started playing dress-up, exploring with make-up and sharing the looks with her followers on social media. Dzingwa went from being a full-time banker at one of the main banks in South Africa and now is also a face model for a local skincare product; Sensual You.

The 30-year-old young woman currently resides in Johannesburg. In March 2020, she was approached by Libe ‘Swiss’ Mohale; Founder and Director of The PR and Brand Network agency, who suggested she pursue a modelling career as she has the face for it. In May 2020, Dzingwa officially launched her modelling career when she did her first campaign as a face model for Sensual You, which gave her the confidence to also become a plus-size model.

The newly plus-size model is inspired by other locally established plus-size models such as Thick Leeyonce, Oyamabotha Misscurvylala, who advocate for body positivity and being fiercely confident in one’s body, skin and shape. Internationally, Dzingwa looks up to the American plus-size fashion model and ambassador of the Real Beauty movement Ashley Graham. The American model became the first plus-size model to appear on the cover of the Swimsuit Issue.

Although, Dzingwa’s modelling career began as a hobby, she seems to have found a balance to juggle both her demanding corporate 9 to 5 and being a model in front of the camera. She hopes to one day do it full-time professionally, representing and being a plus-size model activist. “One need not be afraid to go after what they truly desire out of fear that there are a lot of people already doing it; there is a seat at the table for us all. All it takes is trusting yourself and taking that leap of faith,” says Dzingwa.

She not only wants to be a plus-size model activist; she is also looking at creating a YouTube channel where she can share her journey as a face as well as a plus-size model. She hopes to one day inspire and teach young girls the importance of self-love, being confident in one’s body and not giving up on their dreams.
