1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

Firstly, I’m a wife to my husband, Neil. I’m a mom to two beautiful and kind-hearted kids, Shyla and Dayne and I’m a mom to my 2 dog fur babies, Ragnar and Layla. I am the founder and co-owner own The Beautique Group with Neil. Like most people, I love to travel, read, cook, and entertain. Although I would love to take up learning a musical instrument like guitar or piano and take up painting and sculpting, life is currently too busy.

I love and ensure I carve out time for weekly learning or you can call it soul searching. I believe there is more to life than working, providing for your family, and self-gratification. We all have a purpose in life. I believe that one’s journey should include searching for their purpose and striving to fulfill their purpose because ultimately that will bring fulfillment and meaning to their life.

When individuals actively seek their purpose and work towards fulfilling it, they align themselves with a deeper sense of satisfaction and direction. This journey not only enriches their own experience but also allows them to contribute positively to the world around them, leaving a lasting impact that resonates with their truest self. In essence, embracing and pursuing one’s purpose is key to leading a fulfilling and purposeful life.

    2. What work do you do?

I spend my working day dividing my time at The Beautique group which consists of:

      • The Laser Beautique, a chain of clinics that specialise in hair removal and skincare
      • Beautique Brands is a distribution company that imports and distributes medical aesthetic technology
      • Beautique Academy is an online and face-to-face training academy that trains individuals on how to use medical aesthetic technology successfully.
        3. How long have you been in the industry?

My mother is a beauty therapist who owns her own salon. I grew up in my mom’s salon, so it feels like I’ve been in the beauty industry my whole life. I studied law but didn’t enjoy it. When I lived in the UK, I went into design and marketing. I officially entered the beauty industry when we opened the first Laser Beautique in 2008.

          4. Has your work always been your passion? Tell us why.

I wouldn’t say my work is my passion. I enjoy the industry. I am generally result-driven. I get a kick from achieving good results. I have found ground-breaking solutions to my “hairy” and skin issues which I have been lucky enough to share and turn into a thriving business model. I think finding my purpose is my passion and I am finding my purpose through my work.

If you look and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, right at the top is self-actualisation. I’m at the point in my life where I’m learning every day what my purpose can and should be. Currently, I’m trying to work on making a lasting difference in other people’s lives. Sharing our franchise business model allows others to replicate the success we have had.

We have created an employee journey that we hope will make all feel valued, inspired, and on a growth path. We have created a career ladder, that will hopefully provide a path for therapists to one day become managers and one day become business owners or franchisees.  The majority of our marketing material has an educational element to empower and educate our clients about skin health.

And we try and positively use our influence and to spread good vibes. Making my mark and leaving a positive legacy that my family and friends can be proud of has become my passion.

Abraham Maslow is based on how humans are inspired to satisfy their needs in a hierarchical order. Starting from the bottom and going upwards, the five needs are physiological, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization.

          5. Being a woman in the industry – what does it take?

Being a woman entrepreneur in the beauty and aesthetics industry is truly a rollercoaster ride of emotions. On one hand, there are moments filled with creativity, determination, and deep connections—like the thrill of launching a new product or witnessing a client’s joy. These are the moments that remind me why I love what I do.

Yet, there’s another side to it. There are times of doubt, uncertainty, and challenges that push me to my limits, testing my resilience. Late nights are often spent strategizing and problem-solving, trying to navigate obstacles and stay ahead in a competitive market. Setbacks and failures can feel disheartening, but each one teaches valuable lessons and helps me grow stronger.

Through it all, there’s a profound sense of purpose driving me forward. I find immense joy in creating beauty that not only enhances but also empowers our clients. Building a brand that reflects my values and resonates with our team and customers brings deep satisfaction.

Being in the beauty industry means embracing both the highs and lows, constantly learning and evolving. It’s about celebrating every victory, big or small, and finding inspiration in the journey itself. It’s a journey filled with passion, purpose, and the determination to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

            6. What has been the most difficult challenge of your career?

Finding a work-life balance and separating work and home has been a challenge. Especially because Neil and I work together. It can be difficult to turn work off at home.  Working on myself and sharpening my soft skills has been the toughest part of my career journey. Soft skills, like communication, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and leadership are crucial in any job where relationships matter, and we are in the service industry.

It’s all about people. The hardest part was realizing where I needed to improve. For instance, becoming a better communicator meant learning to express myself clearly and listen actively. Developing emotional intelligence involved understanding my feelings and empathizing with others. Adapting to change was also challenging. In a fast-paced workplace, I had to embrace new technologies and ways of working.

Leadership skills required me to inspire teams, delegate effectively, and make decisions that benefit everyone involved. It hasn’t been easy, but working on these skills has been incredibly rewarding. It’s helped me build better relationships, lead teams more effectively, and grow in my career. It’s an ongoing journey of learning and growth that I’m committed to.

              7. What advice do you have for other women in your industry?

Soul search and make your purpose your life journey. This goes for anyone in any industry. Work is work. Everyone needs to make a living and at some point, you will get bored of what you do or it will become monotonous. If you find your purpose and you thread your life purpose into the mundane part of your work, you will feel fulfilled.

I feel most inspired when I feel like I have lived the day, week, month, etc by my beliefs. Many have honourable beliefs and values but they are too busy to live them. It’s important to stop and write your value system down. This is a process of drilling down what’s the most important things in your life. And then once you have your 5 top values, you thread this into your life. This way you live a life you can be proud of.

                8. Plans for the future?

We plan to establish Laser Beautique franchises across South Africa, aiming to build a recognizable brand that not only creates jobs but also uplifts and upskills many women, while generating numerous growth opportunities.

We have a few plans for the near future. Here are just a few:

We are planning on relaunching our loyalty program. I’m so excited; it’s going to be epic and completely different from any loyalty program seen before, bringing even more value to our customers than ever before!

We also planning on introducing AI into our working world. This should be very interesting. Seeing how AI can improve the way we do things can be life-changing.

During Women’s Month, we are launching a podcast. Not just for The Laser Beautique ladies but for all women in South Africa.  We will be interviewing ladies from within Laser Beautique and beyond. The podcast will be hosted by none other than me 😊 as well as a few other ladies in the business. (Can’t disclose this yet)

The podcast will be celebrating women’s reigns. Every woman is the queen of her household. Each woman shapes her world, building communities, nurturing families, and leading in boardrooms. I’ll be exploring South African women’s stories across various roles—CEOs, educators, artists, and activists—sharing insights on balancing life’s complexities.

I’ll be highlighting the importance of embracing femininity in a traditionally masculine working world, discussing how qualities like empathy and intuition enhance leadership and personal growth. It will be about South African women, empowering each other to thrive in every aspect of life.

                  Short bio

The founder of The Laser Beautique Franchise, Tzvia Hermann, is no newbie in the beauty and aesthetic industry. Tzvia grew up spending most of her time in her mother’s salon. Completing an IT Diploma allowed Tzvia to move to the UK where she travelled, studied Law through correspondence, and dabbled in every field imaginable. Working in various departments and industries proved invaluable.

During Tzvias’ time in the UK and traveling Europe, her passion for beauty and aesthetics lead her to research and experience different treatments, technologies, and products in many cities. Exploring many countries’ contributions to the aesthetic industry fascinated Tzvia.  After 10 years of experience working in the UK and traveling, Tzvia returned to South Africa where she pursued her dream of specialising in aesthetics and opening her aesthetic destination.

Today Tzvia is an internationally recognised laser specialist and trainer. Her award-winning Laser Beautiques have revolutionised the beauty and aesthetic industry by pioneering a host of invasive and non-invasive laser treatments, cosmetic procedures, grooming, and beauty treatments throughout the 8 clinics situated in Gauteng and the Western Cape.
