1. Tell us a bit about yourself?
I Grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, raised by a single mother with two older siblings. Seeing my mother constantly do the most and still have so much love in her heart has shaped me into a woman that takes nothing for granted and always sets on living in the moment. I have grown into a young businesswoman who is currently a – recording artist, producer, and host of my own Tv show called “Keeping It 100”. I feel like we all came to this planet to heal and grow and it turns out we have a lot of unlearning to do.
2. What work do you do?
I am a multi-faceted young woman. A Singer-songwriter, producer, performing artist, CEO, and Founder of a creative agency Florence Stone.
3. How long have you been in the industry?
I’ve been in the entertainment industry for almost 7 years or so now. Making me old to the game but still so young in real life being 26.
4. Has your work always been your passion? Tell us why?
Yess yess and yess. If you are not passionate about what you do then why do it. Working that 9-5 is totally absurd to me. I love the freedom that comes with creating and working for myself at my own pace. I love the freedom that comes with creating and working for myself at my own pace.
5. Being a woman in the industry – what does it take?
Being a woman in any industry is a challenge, especially in this century where we are breaking so many boundaries. Being a woman of colour is even tougher, we carry the weight of always having to be resilient and independent. The music industry is a business, and you always have to be one step ahead, innovative and at a fast pace.
Make sure your names are signed on those papers and make sure you read it through everything . In the same breath don’t be afraid to ask for help and feedback. We need to step into our divine feminine side more and unlearn what society has taught us about being soft and vulnerable. It takes a lot of courage to live life as your authentic self but it’s totally worth it.
6. What has been the most difficult challenge of your career?
Right now it’s finding the balance of being an independent recording artist and the owner of a new company. Switching from artist mode to boss mode makes me miss a couple of emails here and there but it’s still early and I’m building a solid team around me. I’m learning as I go, spending my time more wisely and planning properly.
7. What advice do you have for other women in your industry?
If you are not In love with it, don’t waste your time honey. If you don’t think the next song / product that you are making is the most fire sh**! Yet go take some time with yourself and realign. You need to love and be proud of the work that you put out there and do not settle. Think about How can you add value to the game? How can you elevate it? I promise you it will all fall into place. Take your time and steer as far away from the hype as you can. Learn and unlearn. Know your worth and stand on it.
8. Plans for the future?
I plan on releasing my new album titled “Perfect Timing “On January 21, 2022. There’s still so much to unpack about that album. An African tour in the new year. Exploring different countries and learning about new cultures and falling in love with myself every day while I’m at it. I’d also like to start the journey of doing some events / having workshops with the youth teaching them about the music industry
