1. Can you please provide an overview of your business?

Motherkind is a distinguished and trusted brand specializing in the development of nutricosmetics and supplements that promote kindness to the body from within. Our commitment to excellence is evident in our science-backed collagen peptides, sourced from the world’s finest providers. Developed by experts, our product range focuses on the fundamental principles of nourishing and nurturing the body through pure and proven health and wellness supplements. We prioritize delivering tangible results while ensuring our ingredients, sourced globally, meet the highest standards. Our goal is to establish a robust and trustworthy brand that consistently delivers the outcomes our customers seek.

2. When, how, and why did you establish your business?

Motherkind was founded five years ago. The inception of my health and wellness journey arose from a personal need during my second pregnancy when I faced significant hair loss. Unable to find effective solutions on the market, I conducted extensive research and discovered a remedy that not only addressed my hair concerns but also offered additional health benefits. Driven by a passion to assist others on their health journeys, I established a brand embodying the values that fuel my personal commitment to well-being.

3. What is your role within the business?

As the owner of Motherkind, my role is multifaceted and encompasses several key responsibilities. Firstly, I am dedicated to bringing the latest innovations in nutricosmetics to South Africa, ensuring that our brand remains at the forefront of the industry. This commitment involves extensive global travel to stay abreast of emerging trends and cutting-edge developments worldwide.

I am deeply involved in supporting and collaborating with my team. Recognizing that they are integral to the success of Motherkind, I work closely with each member, fostering a collaborative environment where their individual strengths contribute to the collective success of the brand.

In essence, my role extends beyond ownership to active involvement in the strategic direction of the business, ensuring that Motherkind remains not only a leader in the local market but also a global force in the evolving landscape of nutricosmetics. Through a combination of global engagement, team collaboration, and a commitment to innovation, I strive to uphold and enhance the reputation and impact of the Motherkind brand.

4. Where did you study, and what was your area of focus?

My journey has been defined by hands-on experience, continuous learning, and a passion for the industry. Instead of a traditional academic path, my focus has been on practical knowledge and staying attuned to the dynamic needs of the business landscape.

5. How did you finance the establishment of your business?

Fortunately, I had the advantage of existing work and previous business ventures when Motherkind started. The initial financial requirements were modest, and the brand experienced substantial growth. Beginning with the modest sale of one collagen packet per month, Motherkind rapidly gained traction as awareness of the brand increased.

6. Describe your typical workday.

First and foremost, I am a mother, and my days involve skilfully juggling numerous responsibilities. The foundation of my day starts at 5 am in the gym, a space I played a role in building. Here, I not only prioritize my personal health with an early workout but also check in with the team, ensuring everyone is prepared for the day during our status meeting.

Following this, I head home to oversee the morning routine, ensuring my children are ready and off to school. Once on the professional front, my time in the office is a whirlwind of activities. I engage in the search for innovations, oversee design projects, verify copy accuracy, liaise with health boards, and negotiate distribution deals.

Daily, I engage in crucial meetings covering finance and operational aspects, ensuring the seamless functioning of the business. As the day concludes, I return home to take on yet another role – preparing a home-cooked dinner. This intricate balance between family and business demands careful time management and dedication which inspires the next day.

7. How do you balance your personal and professional life?

Balancing work and life is crucial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I ensure a clear disconnect from work at home, avoiding the temptation to open my laptop. Quality time with my family takes precedence, and strategic planning allows me to attend my children’s events and be present for bedtime. Staying focused is essential for maintaining this balance.

8. What motivates and inspires you?

My primary source of motivation lies in the profound desire to empower and inspire other women on their journeys towards finding balance and fulfilment. I am driven by the belief that a well-lived life is not just a personal accomplishment but a gift that, when shared, can create a positive ripple effect.

Specifically, my passion is ignited by the prospect of aiding women who may not have had access to traditional education in discovering their voices and purposes. If, through my experiences and endeavours, I can serve as a catalyst for even one girl to find her unique path and voice, I consider that a significant inspiration. The idea that my journey can resonate with others, particularly those facing unique challenges, fuels my commitment to creating opportunities for personal and professional growth.

In essence, my motivation is deeply intertwined with the aspiration to be a beacon of inspiration, fostering a sense of possibility and empowerment among women who may face obstacles in their pursuit of education, self-discovery, and purpose. It is in these connections and transformations that I find the truest and most meaningful inspiration for my personal and professional endeavours.

9. Where and when do you generate your best ideas?

Early morning hours and moments of relaxation away from work often spark my most creative ideas.

10. How do you market and advertise your business for sales leads?

Our business predominantly leverages the power of word-of-mouth referrals and strategic social media campaigns to generate sales leads. The positive experiences of our satisfied customers serve as a powerful testimonial, organically expanding our reach through personal recommendations. Simultaneously, our active presence on social media platforms allows us to engage with our audience, share our story, and showcase the unique aspects of our brand. Through these channels, we not only cultivate a loyal customer base but also attract new leads by harnessing the influence of authentic testimonials and the dynamic reach of social media networks.

11. What’s next for your business?

We anticipate launching new products in the upcoming year and exploring international expansion for Motherkind. Constant innovation of our product range remain at the forefront of our goals.

12. What advice would you offer to female entrepreneurs starting their own business?
