1. Can you please tell us more about your business?

It has three parts:

Klutch Plastic Surgery is the surgical limb of the practice where we perform cosmetic operations such as liposuction, tummy tucks, and breast augmentations.

Klutch Medi-Spa is the non-surgical aesthetic limb of the practice where we focus on rejuvenation techniques like Botox, fillers, threads, IV drips, and radiofrequency microneedling.

Klutch Beauty Bar was founded to make the brand accessible to everyone because we all deserve to feel beautiful, offering services from nails, lashes, facials, waxing and massages.

2. When, how, and why did you start your business?

I’ve always wanted to run my own business, and I had a vision from medical school about a comprehensive, holistic aesthetic practice that could be a one-stop for everything beauty, from surgical to non-surgical. Having an integrative practice with a plastic surgeon, aesthetician, lymphatic masseuse, lash, and nail tech functioning harmoniously allows us to provide a comprehensive, bespoke service to our patients. For example, a patient recovering from liposuction surgery may request nail or massage services while in the ward.

3. What is your role in the business?

I am the Director of the company, which is both a challenging and rewarding role as it is an all-female-run operation. Being the owner and one of the youngest members of the team is a balancing act, but once you find your equilibrium, it’s all about mutual respect and accountability.

4. Where did you study and what did you study?

I studied medicine in the Eastern Cape and specialized in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery in Durban. I also completed a year of Business Science, which I believe greatly helps with the corporate sector of our practice.

5. How did you finance your business?

I financed it all on my own. I was not born into wealth nor married into it. I worked to build up capital and slowly started to finance things in order of priority: equipment and staff, and then decor and design.

6. Describe your average workday, if such a thing exists.

It doesn’t! I operate four days a week and also consult four days a week. My hours range from 7 am to sometimes 8 or 9 pm.

7. How do you balance your home life and your work life?

It’s all about making things a priority. If you prioritise, you will always find the time. I am a water baby and need to be in the water at least a few times a week; it centres me. I also write poetry and spend time with my tribe (my very close friends and family who are not shy to tell me like it is). Film is another significant passion of mine, and acting and expressing that side of myself brings me great joy.

8. What drives you and inspires you?

I am inspired by art. I feel that I am an artist at my core. Through Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics, I am able to express that side of myself in one way, but I also get to do that through poetry and acting.

9. Where and when do you have your best ideas?

When I’m travelling. It’s a big priority for me because I truly feel destressed and rejuvenated. It allows me to focus on what the world is getting up to and how I can incorporate that into our lives here.

10. Where and how do you market/advertise your business for sales leads?

I use various tools for marketing: social media, my website, interviews, and events. People need to know what you offer, not just who you are.

11. What is next for your business?

I would like to take the brand to another level. We are currently in talks with some big names for brand collaborations for my skincare and aesthetic line.

12. What advice would you give to female entrepreneurs hoping to start their own business?

It always seems impossible until it’s done. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it all; I’m a living testament that you can. Be humble but unapologetic and take up space.
