1. Can you please tell us more about your business?

A. Virtual Edge – Virtual Assistant Outsourcing Solutions.

We provide Virtual Assistant Outsourcing and Talent Solutions in the Hospitality, Legal, Travel and Tourism, Retail, Facilities Management, Engineering and Construction, Printing and Publishing, and Education Sectors.

2. When, how and why did you start your business?

A. Virtual Edge was founded in 2020 by myself, a passionate South African entrepreneur who has 20 years’ experience, rendering support to top-level executives across an extensive range of industries. With the reality of remote assistance becoming a necessity, the opportunity was embraced to offer a risk-free staffing strategy to empower business owners and help them grow their businesses, without employment overheads.

3. What is your role in the business?

A. Owner, Founder, Director, and Virtual Assistant.

4. Where did you study and what did you study?

A. I never had the opportunity to study. However, you don’t always need a degree. Passion, Wi-Fi, and a dream can get you far.

5. How did you finance your business?

A. My business is self-funded.

6. Describe your average workday, if such a thing exists.

A. I don’t have an average workday, as each day comes with its own challenges. However, I would normally start my day with my favourite; a Vida-E Latte; checking my diary (as we work on time blocking), planning my day, reading and responding to emails, meeting with clients (current and potential), and the rest of the time I would be building my brand.

7. How do you balance your home life and your work life?

A. It can be challenging at times since I have a home office and 3 children. My productivity is reliant on effective diary management. Plan, schedule, execute!

8. What drives you and inspires you?

A. All the women out there building a brand, while growing a family, getting their 10k steps in, drinking their 2L’s of water, and who’s consistently showing up.

9. Where and when do you have your best ideas?

A. On my way to/from a meeting.

10. Where and how do you market/advertise your business for sales leads?

A. Mostly LinkedIn, as it’s a B2B offering. Alternatively, also Facebook to get more visits to my website.

11. What is next for your business?

A. My next business would be offering recruitment services to the Middle Eastern Market – there is definitely a demand for skilled South Africans.

12. What advice would you give to female entrepreneurs hoping to start their own business?

A. Entrepreneurship is all about finding opportunities (which is most often disguised as hard work). Also, remember that it is not a journey where you stay the same and in your comfort zone.
