1. Can you please tell us more about your business?

A. Confident Women in Business (CWIB) was founded in March 2018 and is a forum designed to inspire, support, and encourage women in business who love God. Our purpose and passion is to empower businesswomen through God’s Word, with weekly Bible Study sessions, monthly Get-Togethers, monthly newsletters, a Business Expo, an annual Conference, regular Workshops, and Retreats.

We also have a close circle of women who are members of the CWIB Club. We grow together and support each other in our life, career, and business journeys! This is a community where businesswomen can share their faith and their love for business and through this, empower other women in business.

2. When, how, and why did you start your business?

A. In 2015 and 2016 I was the National President of the South African Council for Businesswomen. This is where my love for women in business started. During my term, I neglected myself, my business, and my family. I finished my term with severe burnout and depression. In 2017 I realised that I can’t do life and business without God’s presence, His guidance, and love. The result – Confident Women in Business was birthed early in 2018.

As a businesswoman and business owner for the largest part of my life, I know what it is to be in business and what it takes and the sacrifices you must make to fulfill all the different roles and responsibilities as a woman. I wanted to create a platform for women in business as well as for young girls, that would consist of everything I wish I had access to when I was starting in my career and business early in my life. I wanted to share the amazing stories and testimonies of other God-loving daughters, stories of hope, successes, hurdles, and hardships – stories of confidence – to be an inspiration and to motivate other women in business every day!

3. What is your role in the business?

A. I’m the Founder and Director. I also fulfill all the other roles that you need to run a business with, do the marketing and organising the events. I also have a creative side, and I do all my own designs, and design and manage my website!

4. Where did you study and what did you study?

A. I went to the University of Pretoria after school and did a Batchelor’s Degree with a major in Economics. I got married, started a family early, and I haven’t had the opportunity to really use the knowledge in my career. Experience, making mistakes, and different mentors were my best source of business wisdom.

5. How did you finance your business?

A. When I started CWIB I thought it will only be something that I will do on the side, but as time went by, I realised that this is my calling and I needed to do this full-time. At first, I was funding everything out of my own pocket, with my husband supporting me, but as the business is growing, I am managing to use the revenue to build and grow the business.

6. Describe your average workday, if such a thing exists?

A. I wake up early, starting my day with a cup of hot water with lemon, spending time with God, and listening to Worship music. Then have a cup of black coffee! I am working from home. I plan my day, the day before. Early in the mornings I will go through my to-do list and prioritise, schedule my social media marketing and newsletters, read, answer, and send e-mails and then leave for meetings. In the afternoons I normally read, do research, and do the planning for the next events. I love to walk and normally go for a quick 5km walk later in the afternoon.

7. How do you balance your home life and your work life?

A. I think for most Entrepreneurs, this is one of the biggest challenges. Working from home, wearing most of the hats, and being passionate about what you do makes ‘work life’ feature more regularly. But I am intentional about spending time with my family and friends, taking walks, reading, and taking time to relax. The CWIB Confident Me-Time retreats that I host are always a blessing for me personally as well.

8. What drives you and inspires you?

A. I love what I do. I wake up every morning with joy in my heart! To see women around me growing, developing, and gaining confidence, getting to know who they are in Jesus Christ, and the power of this in their lives and in their businesses drives me and inspires me to do more.

I have a serving heart. Serving is such an important part of what life is about. When we sacrifice for others, we feel more complete and have a richer life. My biggest desire is to follow in the footsteps of the greatest servant leader who ever lived – Jesus Christ.  As Mother Teresa said, “Give your hands to serve, and your hearts to love.”

9. When and where do you have your best ideas?

A. In church, in early mornings in bed, or when I am taking a walk.

10. When and how do you market/advertise your business for sales leads?

A. Most of my marketing is being done on various social media platforms, but the most powerful advertising medium is Word of Mouth, businesswomen sharing their testimonies and experiences.

11. What is next for your business?

A. I only recently started with the hosting of business expos for women in business in Gauteng. This is a powerful tool to enlarge the network and reach more women. The next step is to grow nationally and to give more women the opportunity to be a part of this platform in various ways, to grow, to be inspired and encouraged, and empowered in their business and faith journeys.

12. What advice would you give to female entrepreneurs hoping to start their own business?

A. Go after the dream that God placed in your heart. Take bold and confident steps with Him as your CEO. Surround yourself with women/people who will uplift you, mentor you, guide you, pray for you, and who will speak Godly wisdom into your decisions, your life and career, and business. We need each other and we are stronger together!
