The Department of Home Affairs has announced its participation at this years’ Rand Show which coincides with its piloting of the mobile application solution for the smart ID card conversion from the green one. The pilot project has taken into account the citizens’ needs for a secure, efficient product while ensuring communities’ access to government services.
This year visitors will be able to access a variety of Home Affairs services and products such as birth, marriage, death registrations as well as smart ID card and passports.
“Our participation in the Rand Show is testimony to our resolve to serve our communities across the length and breadth of our country,” says Mr Mkuseli Apleni, Director-General of Home Affairs.
Other services to be rendered will include immigration services, i.e. visa applications in conjunction with the VFS visa facilitation service, as well as investigating and providing responses to complex individual enquiries, relating to the work of Home Affairs. There will be interactive public awareness exercises throughout the duration of the Show.
“It is quite an honour to have the Home Affairs participate at this year’s Rand Show to give visitors that much needed access to the department, without taking a day off work to do so,” says Craig Newman CEO of the Johannesburg Expo Centre. “We encourage visitors to make use of this facility at the show as it is convenient,” added Newman.
Communication on birth registration within 30 days is part of Home Affairs’ key communication programmes on Smart ID card rollout, and Early Birth Registration requirements. Dedicated staff and resources to enhance a positive client experience will be made available by the department at the show.
“We once more call upon visitors to the Rand Show to seize this opportunity and convert their green ID books to a new smart ID card,” says Apleni. Please visit Home Affairs department at Showcase SA Hall 7 throughout the duration of the show.
