Aims for R1 million in donations during the Covid-19 shutdown.
Superiate’s Cans With Purpose initiative continues to rally support in aid of hungry children throughout South Africa. And now, Superiate is appealing to the public to donate from their couches during the mandatory 21-day COVID-19 lockdown period.
Launched under two weeks ago, on Monday the 16th of March, Superiate’s Cans With Purpose has raised over R100 000 so far. All proceeds collected by Cans With Purpose are donated to Afrika Tikkun to buy canned food and other essentials that will feed local people in need during the 21-day lockdown period and beyond.
Precious Nala, Marketing Manager for Afrika Tikkun, has issued a personal appeal to South Africa during this difficult time, saying, “Afrika Tikkun works with some of the most vulnerable communities, all of whom are the most affected during this period. We are directing all donations received across our four centres in Johannesburg and one centre in Mfuleni to provide nutritious food parcels for our young people and their families.
Kindness to those in need
To ensure our communities are well-resourced during this time, we are asking the public for further assistance in the form of funds and donations through the Cans With Purpose initiative. This is the time we must unite as a nation and show ubuntu and responsible kindness to those in need.”
Local celebrities have added their star power and influence to Cans With Purpose in an effort to call corporate South Africa to action. Lee-Ann Liebenberg and Siv Ngesi have become spokespeople for the initiative and other celebrities behind the cause, including Rachel Kolisi, Gareth Cliff, Pascal, and other big names in an online video.
Brad Stern, founder of Superiate and Cans With Purpose said, “This initiative has gained so much momentum. We are so proud to have raised over R100 000 for Afrika Tikkun to assist with their efforts in feeding our communities. So many individuals and corporates have given willingly, and now we have set a new goal. We want to raise R1 million for Afrika Tikkun to feed the people who need it most in our country. We challenge any individuals and corporates to give from your couches during this 21-day shutdown. Your help can stop people from going hungry. Every single cent will help, so please donate any amount you can, visit www.superiate.com for donation details.”
In the spirit of ubuntu and hope
As the nation enters the lockdown period, Superiate’s Cans With Purpose appeals to all South Africans to help our poor and hungry in the spirit of ubuntu and hope. Through collaboration and sharing, we can ensure that all South Africans have their basic need for nourishment attended to. Show your support on social media using the hashtag #yesonecan.
In the words of our President, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, “In the days, weeks and months ahead, our resolve, our resourcefulness and our unity as a nation will be tested as never before. I call on all of us, one and all, to play our part. To be courageous, to be patient, and above all, to show compassion.”
